2012 SFCA Sims Cup 40 Over Classic Final Steven Taylor bangs 121 as Jamaica takes SFCA Sims Classic Title By Ricardo Inniss Special Correspondent
Before a large die-hard and enthusiastic crowd of South Florida Cricket Alliance (SFCA) cricket fans, Jamaica over-powered the SFCA Under-23 team crushing them by 145 runs in a comprehensive victory, to take the 2012 SFCA Sims Classic Cup. The action took place at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium (CBRP), on Sunday April 15.
Winning the toss, and electing to bat first, Jamaica led by a scintillating 121 from the red-hot bat of Steven Taylor, tore the SFCA Under-23 bowling apart to reach a very defendable 261 for 9, off the regulated 40 overs. Taylor’s ton was decorated with 7 sweet-timing fours and 5 huge sixes, off just 88 balls. Others helping to boost the total, were Obryon Jones with a sedate 34 scored off 49 balls including 2 fours, Shawn Becford who lashed 5 fours whilst scoring 32 off 38 balls and Kenroy Wright 29 (1 four & 2 sixes) off 49 balls. Bowling for the SFCA Under-23 team, Kemar Wright, Hakeem Wright, Joseph Smith and Shaquille Forbes, each took 2 wickets for 35, 36, 39 and 49 runs respectively. Charves Bucknor, scalped 1 for 32 from 4 overs.
In a feeble reply, the SFCA Under-23 team was toppled for a paltry 116 after only 30.2 overs, to give Jamaica an emphatic 145 run victory, and their second consecutive lien on the SFCA Sims Cup. Joseph Smith who hit 43 off 49 balls including 1 four and 2 sixes, and Forbes with 1 four and 3 sixes in a 66 ball 42, were the only batsmen to reach double figures. Bowling Jamaica to victory, Fast-man Herlando Johnson ripped-out 3 for 14 from 6 overs 2 of which were maidens, Owen Roper bagged 2 for 21 off 8, Neville Dawkins captured 2 for 29 off 7, Garnet Campbell 1 for 7 off 2 and Keyonie Gayle 1 for 43 from 7.2 The Umpires were Sylvan Taylor and Wayne Nembhard. Congrats to the victorious Jamaica team. |
