Congratulations to Umpire Sylvan Taylor who takes on his first international assignment from April 9 to 15, 2011.

Bill Jordan has retired from umpiring in South Florida.

This is to inform all concerned of my decision to Retire from on-field Umpiring in South Florida. I have had a long and enjoyable stint of umpiring, not only in South Florida, but also in Boston and Barbados.

I was introduced to umpiring back in 1966 by a family member, who thought it was a better chance of longevity, in maintaining my love and passion for the game. Some of the older guys might remember Cortez Jordan, one of the best West Indies Umpires ever; it was he who made that suggestion to me back in the 60s.  At that time I was more interested in moving to England to play League Cricket, but he managed to get through to me some how, and quashed that idea. I have no regrets for making the decision to become an Umpire.

Umpiring is hard work, but I totally enjoyed it.  Even though I'm officially retiring from the on-field duties, I will still maintain my close association with the South Florida Umpires Association (SFUA) and the South Florida Cricket Alliance (SFCA). I will inform the heads of both bodies at this time that I'll always be available to assist in other areas, if needed.  We have a good thing going here in South Florida, but like everything else, there's still room for improvement.    I'll share some ideas with the heads of both bodies in the near future.want to thank the SFUA and the SFCA for giving me the opportunity to stand in the middle week after week for the last 23 years. It was a pleasure!!

Thanks again!!
